I’m confused…the title of the article is LOW-CAL cocktails. how is traditional simple syrup, using a cup of sugar, considered “low-cal?”

Hi, I’m an editor with Health.com. The idea for low-cal cocktails (see our list by clicking on the link in the first sentence) is that you only use a bit of simple syrup – about one ounce – and focus instead on fruit ingredients. Simple syrup is just one component of the whole drink. Hope that helps!

could you make the simple syurp with splenda?

  • amanda

Simple syrup is sweeter than sugar.

    From http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Simple-Syrup
“Sugar, commonly known as sucrose, is made of two smaller sugars, glucose and fructose. When boiled in water, these two separate and make a sweetener that is sweeter then the original.”

and yes, you can make it with Splenda
