5 Tricks From an MD to Instantly Flatten Your Belly

Ban bubbly drinks
The carbon dioxide in carbonated beverages can stay in your belly, causing visible bloating, says Walter Coyle, MD, gastroenterology program director at Scripps Medical Center in California.

Say no to gum
“It causes you to swallow air,” Dr. Coyle explains. Sugarless gum has sorbitol, a sugar substitute that your gut bacteria turns into gas, giving you a pooch.

Drink tea
Peppermint tea (warm or iced) may ease the upset stomach that makes you look bloated.

Skip salty foods
They cause you to retain water, so you look bigger than you actually are.

Bring in good bugs
Take a probiotic (such as acidophilus) or eat yogurt with live cultures to boost the good bacteria in your digestive tract that keep you regular—and keep a puffy stomach at bay.

  • Food intolerances can cause bloating along with a myriad of other ‘allergic’ type symptoms. I am not talking a true allergic response, but an intolerance.

My wife eliminated wheat from her diet and withing two months, was down 10 pounds. Keeping in mind that she is a naturally lean person, she did not expect the weight loss. She also improved some allergic symptoms – stuffy nose and red, scratchy eyes.

A good way to try this out for yourself is to try a diet of fruits, veg and lean meats and fish for a couple of weeks. Basically you are losing the grains, legumes and all processed foods. CRP is C-reactive protein. It is an indication of inflammation in your body. It is produced by the liver. It can be used as an indicator of possible future risk of heart disease, but note the POSSIBLE. Please talk to your doctor!

Sounds interesting and a possibility for many to learn things re: eating and using the info to have a better lifestyle and health as well.
If someone will explore some of this, they may find enjoying different flavors and hopefully fresh veggies as well as fruit, rice and other grains.
We need a lot of options with dessert as well – sorbet, low fat ice cream, etc.

I have been losing weight now for months with diet and exercise. The other day I threw up three times and lost a quick four pounds!! But, this stuff helps too.

I know that I have alot of bloating and water retention due to food related allergies. I was so bad at one time I was convinced that I had Fibromialgia because I hurt everywhere. I finally had, had it with the pain and water retention so I decided to fast for 21 days to reset my body so to speak. I drank only liquids and ate absolutely nothing. My diet consisted of water, Ensure and Slimfast ONLY for the entire 21 days!! All my Fibro symptoms disappeared in the first week and I lost 15 pounds. Fasting can be a good tool if used correctly many doctors are finding this out now and have written books on the benefits in moderation. Jesus did it in the bible and even teaches it as well. Don’t use the excuse he was superhuman because he was all human just like us while here on earth…if he thought it was useful than I am all for it…it worked for me!!!

a good diet should be accom by exercise, it should be balance.

  • Brooke

this sounds like a good diet…but how long do you do it though???that is something you need to mention in this..
