I would like to share from my own experience that I lost my gut by focusing on a plan that lowered my overall body fat percentage. 

I did not focus on ab specific exercises. 

When I got my body fat down to about 8% (I’m a guy) I started to see my abs.

There is no quick fix or trick. I simply ate the right number of calories on a daily basis, burned a specific amount of calories daily through exercise, ate the right types of foods and skipped the bad one. I also focused on getting my body fat percentage down to 8-10% range because research shows that this is where most men will see their abs.
