i've been reading articles on food, health, diet, and exercise for more years than i can count, and for a long time i had what i now realize was an obsession with those things. as much as i tried to deny it, it had to do with my body. i know so many people who have the same mentality and don't think twice about it- food is emotional, they think if they eat certain things they have been "bad," as if it reduces their self-worth or something.
i just wanted to tell you that in accordance with this article there is a great book out there called intuitive eating, by evelyn tribole and elyse resch, which has changed my life. i have a great, healthy relationship with food, and i eat whatever i want to, as long as i'm in tune with my inner body's signals. over the past year i've recovered from an eating disorder with this program, and although at first i gained a little weight, i am now at an even lower weight than i was when i was dieting, i exercise frequently because i love it, and i appreciate and enjoy food and my body. i would recommend this book to everyone, as well as this approach. it sounds crazy for dieters to think that it can be true, but really, if we just listen to our internal body signals rather than all these crazy rules the external world gives us, you're doing yourself the most justice and getting the best results.
